Minimal Volume & Weight Increase = Lower Transportation & Disposal Costs
Hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste streams must often be solidified and stabilized to pass the Paint Filter Test prior to placement in an appropriately permitted landfill. Industrial solidification has traditionally involved the addition of various agents, including:
- Kiln dust
- Saw dust
- Portland cement
- Or other media directly to liquid waste
This significantly increases the volume of material requiring transportation and disposal.
ZapZorb's super absorbent materials solidify industrial liquid wastes with a nominal volume increase and ensures that industrial liquid wastes pass the Paint Filter Liquids Test. Given the capacity for ZapZorb to retain substantial volumes of water there is limited increase in weight of the solidified mass, thereby minimizing transportation and disposal costs.
For example, ZappaTec recently completed a project in which more than 300 tons of a liquid industrial sludge containing chlorinated solvents required only 10 tons of super absorbent polymer. Only a 3% increase in the total mass of sludge!
