ZapZorb® - Industrial Sludge Solidifier
Super Absorbent Polymers are finding new uses in industry. Zappa Tec's new industrial liquid solidification agent (ZapZorb) has been proven to be cost effective. Super absorbent materials can absorb up to 300 times their weight in liquid.
Minimal Volume/Weight Increase with ZapZorb
Hazardous and Non-Hazardous industrial waste streams must often be solidified to pass the Paint Filter Test prior to placement in an appropriately permitted landfill. Industrial solidification has traditionally involved the addition of various agents such as kiln dust, saw dust, Portland cement, or other media directly to liquid waste, thereby significantly increasing the volume of material requiring transportation and disposal.
ZapZorb solidifies industrial wastes with a nominal volume increase and ensures that wastes pass the Paint Filter Liquids Test. Given the capacity for ZapZorb to retain substantial volumes of water there is limited increase in weight of the solidified mass, thereby minimizing transportation and disposal costs.
For example, Zappa Tec recently completed a project in which more than 300 tons of a liquid sludge containing chlorinated solvents required only 10 tons of super absorbent polymer. Only a 3% increase in the total mass of sludge!
Hazardous, Non-Hazardous and Low-Level Rad Waste
Zappa Tec can assist clients with the safe, effective and economical solidification of hazardous, non-hazardous and low-level radioactive waste. Using our proprietary solidification technology (ZapZorb) we can significantly reduce transportation and disposal costs.
Super Absorbency
ZapZorb achieves absorbency ratios of up to 300:1 water to absorbent.
In other words, 1 lb. of ZapZorb® can absorb up to 25 gallons of liquid.
ZapZorb FAQs
What types of waste streams does ZapZorb solidify best?
ZapZorb works well with almost all waste streams that have an aqueous component. The product solidifies waste streams very quickly.
Can ZapZorb solidify petroleum sludges?
Petroleum and water sludges respond very well to ZapZorb. Very high concentrations of light petroleum distillates will adversely impact performance.
What common constituents adversely impact ZapZorb's performance?
High pH and/or sodium levels may reduce ZapZorb's overall effectiveness.
Does ZapZorb have a "Swell Factor"?
ZapZorb's "Swell Factor" is less than 1% of total volume by weight.
What is a typical admix ratio?
Sludges and dredge sediments have an admix ratio of 1% to 4%.
Is ZapZorb-solidified waste accepted at Subtitle D landfills?
Yes. Proper use of ZapZorb ensures that solidified waste passes paint filter tests.
What industries will benefit the most from using ZapZorb for their liquid waste solidification?
Industrial Service Contractors, Landfills, Hazardous and Non-hazardous Treatment Facilities, Remediation Contractors, Low-level Radioactive Waste Contractors.
